New Refinished Desk!

Well my latest refinishing project at Relish has been on the go for a while, since it was interrupted by the arrival of little Oscar. But now that I’m mostly back to functioning, here it is!!

I found a cute little desk in my travels, although it was pretty beat up and sad looking. But a couple of coats of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Duck Egg Blue and voila! (And thank you to my intern Jackie for helping me out with this one!)

 

 

The desk just came out on the floor this past week, and you can see it in the window right now. I hope to see you soon so you an check out this desk, and my other recent goodies!

New Vintage!

Once again Relish has re-stocked with some great new vintage pieces. Here’s a little taste….
A beautiful antique armchair with turned legs, original castors, and a stunning gold and royal blue botanical fabric…

The Gift of Art

This post is dedicated as a thank you to Emily Johnson, a fantastic artist who is featured at Relish right now. (PS – you’ll want to come by and check out her work while it’s still here!) She popped by last night during Art Crawl with a completely unexpected and incredibly thoughtful gift – a beautiful piece of artwork!

 

This will be Oscar’s very first piece of original art – and by a Hamilton artist! Em’s work is just stunning and Ilya and I were both very touched by this gift. And the piece features blues and yellows – my favourites!

Finally, A Beach!

After craving the beach for SO LONG, Bertha and I finally made it a couple of weeks ago to a beach near Dunnville. It felt soooooo good to finally get in the water, although it was a bit too chilly for real swimming.

But holy smokes did Bertha ever have a good time, and even taught herself to swim for the first time! (I didn’t get any swimming pictures because I was sure I’d drop the camera in the water.)

This is Bertha taking a little break – and discovering how good it feels to roll around in the sand – she was completely covered – I’m still finding sand in her hair and in my car!

 
Really, could this girl be any happier?? Look at that smile on her face!

We’re going to have to try to make it back here, maybe even this weekend, as it’s supposed to be beautiful, hot weather.

Which reminds me, please note that Relish will be closed on Sunday July 1st to celebrate Canada Day. Enjoy the fireworks, everyone!

More Chalk Paint Projects at Relish!

Yep, still working away with that amazing product, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, here at Relish. Last week I finished a couple of vintage chairs (which looks amazing painted, by the way) and a little girl’s vanity with a flip-up mirror.

Here are a few pics of the work as it progresses on the vintage kid’s chair…

Just look at this amazing Antibes Green colour! I mixed it with the Pure White to get this nice muted bright green for the kid’s chair.

Calling All Design-Savvy Vintage Lovers!

Ok, here’s the big news – Relish is looking for interns!

(Bertha said she’d do it, but it’s hard to count out change for customers when you have no thumbs!)
 
 
I’m really looking forward to having interns to help me out here at the shop, since this will free me up to source out even more amazing vintage pieces and new product lines for Relish. And new people getting invoved also means new ideas and a fresh set of eyes, which is always helpful.
 
If you want to learn more about design, furniture, vintage and the ins and outs of running a small business, not to mention getting involved in the great scene on James St N, this just might be perfect for you!
 
I’m looking for a couple of interns to work anywhere from 6 to 12 hours per week starting in May. You must be responsible, comfortable using social media, able to work unsupervised, mature, friendly, outgoing, and have an eye for design.
 
If you’re interested in getting involved at Relish, please email  me a quick note about why you think you’d be a great Relish intern, along with your resume and contact info, to me at info@relishvintage.ca.
 
And please feel free to include any questions you might have about the position! I’d be happy to provide you with some more details.
